The site is the Huguenot Street Farm in New Paltz, New York. We pulled up across the road this afternoon, captivated by the unearthly-fresh green Richter meadow. We had arrived just after a torrential downpour.

I spotted this ornamental tree in the garden in front of a town house on West 23rd Street yesterday afternoon. I’ve never before seen these blossoms attached to such a large specimen. The alien red petal found its way there either by chance or an intervention, but that’s where it was when I arrived.

I’ve always gotten off on the voluptuousness of snow forms, but these sexy folds are the least approachable part of a great storm – unless you stick a camera out of a breakfast room window.
